Welcome to Trippi

Your travel insurance buddy!

Trippi knows travel insurance as well as holidays. At Trippi our aim is to save you money on travel insurance , so you have more to spend on the enjoyment of being on holiday.^

It starts with our belief that every trip is different.

Therefore, Trippi is not a rigid list of benefits, half of which you don't need based on where you are going or what you intend doing. Or the item of cover you really need sits on the highly priced platinum cover only. Trippi allows you to choose what's in or out.* Trippi allows you customise your cover and excesses.

Trippi does the serious side of insurance really well,
so you do the non serious side of holidays even better.

Trippi can be tailored to your trip. You avoid the drama of "bad holiday fit". With the ability to choose the right amount of cover for what you need (and don’t need) you can save on insurance.^

So that's potentially more money in your pocket to reward yourself in Rupees, bundle over to Baht, purchase some Pounds or divert into different Dollars.

And if you get sick , delayed, or lose your holiday essentials you will be glad you did not travel alone. Trippi is your buddy and is on hand to help and support you wherever/ whenever with a 24/7 call centre and emergency assistance team.

So for more fun and even more protection, don't travel without Trippi.

  • How is Trippi different from other travel insurance plans?

Trippi also provides 24/7 emergency travel and medical assistance services, benefits for adventure activities, and remote destinations.

  • What happens if I need help?

Your Trippi travel buddy provides you 24/7 responsive customer service, emergency travel and medical assistance from any device, any time, any place.

You have access to an operations team, which consists of multi-lingual, talented humans who come from extensive travel protection service backgrounds. The team can help arrange for emergency medical evacuation or make travel arrangements. The team also locates lost luggage, finds lawyers, interpreters, or doctors worldwide.

  • Does Trippi cover for COVID-19?

Yes. Trippi travel insurance includes cover as standard for medical expenses caused by or resulting from COVID-19.

You can select cover for Cancellation and Trip Interruption, which if selected, extends cover to events caused by or resulting from COVID-19. Claims will be paid up to the amount shown in your Certificate of Insurance and subject to the terms and conditions of your policy.

  • What is an Excess?

Insurance cover generally will cover you for an amount of money in ‘excess’ of a certain amount. So if, for example, we cover unlimited medical expenses above $250 per person, per event, we will simply say you have a $250 excess.

You can see the excess amount on your  Certificate of Insurance and is your financial contribution to any claim accepted by us. Any applicable excess will apply on a per Insured Person, per claim event basis. Where a claim event triggers benefits under multiple covers or sections, the highest applicable excess will apply.

  • Do you cover COVID testing or quarantine?

If you contract COVID-19 while travelling and require medical treatment (including testing) during your trip, it would be covered. However, routine testing required to enter or leave another state or country is not covered under your policy.

If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 and are required to quarantine, you may have coverage under your policy. For example:

    • If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 by a registered medical provider within 14 days before your trip (and after you’ve purchased your policy), you may be covered under Cancellation benefits, if you have selected it and it is reflected on your Certificate of Insurance
    • If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 by a registered medical provider while on your trip, you may have cover for Trip Interruption (if you have selected it and it is reflected on your Certificate of Insurance) expenses you incur

Note that stay-at-home orders and isolation due to potential COVID-19 exposure aren’t covered.

  • Are there any exclusions?

Absolutely! Insurance is not a blank cheque – We try to balance making insurance affordable and still covering the most common needs people have when they travel. We know most people don’t want to read the exciting adventure that is an insurance policy wording, but we strongly urge you to do so. We’ve tried to make our wording as straightforward as it can be, whilst still being a legal contract that you can rely upon. You can read the Product disclosure Statement.

  • Am I covered if the resort closes due to COVID-19?

No, this product does not cover for resort closure due to COVID-19 (the resort is usually responsible for this). If you are notified of a resort closure due to COVID-19, we recommend you contact the resort or your travel agent.

  • How does Trippi work out how much to charge for travel insurance?

    You can think of Insurance as a pool of money that people contribute to. How much you contribute is generally based on how likely they are to lodge a claim for these funds and how much you would need. Some of the information we use to determine this includes;

    • The duration of cover (both the time you are covered before you travel and the time you are away)
    • The age of everyone travelling
    • The countries you are travelling to
    • What Excess you choose
    • What Optional Covers you select

  • What is the Trippi Snow Pack Optional Cover?

Snow Pack cover, when selected, covers equipment loss or damage for skiing and snowboarding. It extends the benefits of your policy to include claims which may arise when you are participating in snow sports. No cover will apply in respect of Personal Liability claims.

Equipment includes snowboards, skis, bindings, sticks/poles and boots. Snow sports equipment is covered (the maximum amount payable for each insured person is AUD $300). Hired equipment is also covered (the maximum amount payable for each insured person is AUD $300). Exclusions do apply, so please check the PDS and your Certificate of Insurance for full details.

  • Do I need to declare my pre-existing conditions?

Trippi insurance is designed to cover things that are generally unexpected, so unfortunately this means there is no cover for losses incurred from many pre-existing medical conditions impacting you, a member of the travelling party or a non-travelling close relative, your business partner or co-worker. Please refer to the PDS to see the list of pre existing conditions which are automatically covered under the policy.

You don’t need to disclose your pre-existing conditions to us when you buy a policy, but we may ask for relevant details of your medical history in the event of a claim.

  • What do you consider to be a pre-existing medical condition?

Our definition of pre-existing medical condition is, in the 12 months before buying the policy:

    • a medical or dental condition of which you’re aware, or the related complication you have, or the symptoms of which you’re aware
    • a medical or dental condition currently being, or has been, investigated or treated by a medical practitioner (including dentist or chiropractor)
    • any condition for which you take prescribed medicine. Doesn’t apply to common colds, flu or contraceptive medication
    • any condition for which you’ve had surgery
    • any condition for which you see a medical specialist

This definition applies to you, your travelling party, a close relative or any other person named on the Certificate of Insurance.

  • Policy changes and cancelling my policy?

You can change your travel dates any time before the start of your trip and cancellation is free within the cooling-off period. We can offer you a full refund provided you cancel within 21 days of receiving your policy documents and before the start date of your policy.

If you have already embarked on your trip or need to cancel after the 21-day cooling-off period, your premium will be refunded pro-rata from the date your instructions are received, provided you have not made a claim.

In all cases, whether or not you cancel within the cooling-off period, we will only consider a refund if:

    • You haven’t started your trip
    • You haven’t made a claim
    • You don’t intend to make a claim or exercise any other right under your policy

When a policy cancellation has been accepted, we will process your refund within 15 business days.

  • Am I eligible to purchase Trippi insurance?

Trippi can be your travel insurance buddy if:

    • You are 18 years of age or older, but not more than 99 years of age
    • The date of your departure is no more than 12 months from the date of purchase
    • You are an Australian resident
    • You have not commenced your trip

If for any reason you cannot satisfy all these criteria, please contact us and we will do our utmost to find a product to suit your needs.

  • How do I lodge a claim? What can I do to help with the processing of my claim?

If something happens before or during your trip and you want to use your travel insurance, you can lodge a claim with us.

We recommend bringing a print-out of your policy documents with you when travelling so if you are affected by a storm and lose power or can’t connect to the Internet, you’ll still know what number to call and what instructions to follow.

For non-emergency situations before or during your trip: document the situation as much as possible and keep receipts for any expenses incurred. If you have any questions about your situation, or you need guidance, please connect with us for a chat.

For emergency situations, or if you need assistance during your trip: we can help you with any situation and answer questions about next steps and required documentation.

You can start your claim here. Thereafter, the claim process will involve the following interactions:

    • Telling us about the incident that caused your claim
    • Specifying the financial loss you want reimbursed
    • Providing evidence of the incident and the relevant losses to support your claim

Once submitted, a claims analyst promptly assesses your claim, determines whether it meets the terms of your policy (including contacting you to request additional information or to clarify any details), and communicates the outcome to you.

  • What is medical assistance?

In the event you become sick or injured while travelling, we can help! We’ll get you started with a referral to a locally licensed medical professional.

We’ll monitor your condition, and if medically necessary, make arrangements to transport you to the nearest medical facility that can properly treat you. This includes medical emergencies occurring onboard a cruise ship for those who have bought the optional Cruise Pack).

  • What is emergency assistance?

Regardless of the type of travel emergency—from a natural disaster to terrorist attack, to a serious injury—we can help you. Contact us soon as possible and we’ll guide you every step of the way.

  • Does travel insurance cover medical issues?

Yes, Trippi travel insurance offers coverage for travel medical expenses, emergency dental expenses, and emergency evacuation if you become ill or seriously injured during your covered trip.

  • When should I buy travel insurance?

The best time to buy travel insurance is immediately after making your first payment or deposit for your trip, whether that’s a hotel reservation, airline ticket, or tour package. Of course, better late than never. You can buy our policies up until you start your trip.

  • Does travel insurance cover trip cancellation?

Yes, if selected, Trip Cancellation protects you if you need to cancel your trip unexpectedly for specific reasons such as an unexpected death, illness, or medical condition. You can also be covered for cancellation or restriction by the carrier of pre-paid scheduled public transport services, caused by severe weather, natural disaster, riot, strike or civil commotion, and certain employment-related scenarios.
